Project management is tough enough without having executives and project sponsors lead project managers astray with demands to manage the project that are just plain foolish. For the 2nd video, I would tell the Sponsor I'd take what she said into consideration and then I'd go out there and have a kick-ass kickoff meeting. It would be important for me to stress to the people on the team that although I am new, I know they have what it takes to make the project a success. I would ask them to come to me within that first week if they have any issues or concerns so that we could address it right away. I would stress the importance of fairness and basically, just make them excited to be a part of that project team.
